Of course! Great piece! I think acknowledging is fine. Coddling and enabling, not so much.
Using society’s obsession with validation as a loophole to do whatever one wants without learning is just adapting to the world to manipulate it to one’s favor.
Kids do that anyway. That’s how they learn - pushing the boundaries to watch the adult push back.
It’s up to the adult to know when the child is leveraging a social construct to manipulate it in favor of taking on a negative maladaptive behavior.
The issue is usually that the adult is being manipulated by society into adopting that behavior as well, and the child is having the maladaptive manipulation of the construct reinforced through brainwashing at school.
And the child will often tell the parent that they are “wrong” and “school is right.”
But schools undermining parental authority is another can of worms altogether - and it’s been happening as long as I can remember.
I suppose the best counter for that would be to make sure the schools they attend are in alignment with the values of the family overall.
Harder to do nowadays to align the living situation with work, school, and overall values, but worth it for sure.
