The Bloodiest Day In American History
It would be difficult to portray visually - I agree.
It would need to rely a great deal upon POV, especially to get the feeling of disorientation that I’m sure characterized the specific type of fear they were all feeling.
That would require tricks of the senses via soundscape and axis flipping, upon not knowing which direction any particular sound or visual was coming from, while also resisting the urge to remove orientation from the piece entirely, something Michael Bay might do, in which you would just see the textures of blood and corn everywhere without being able to become grounded in any sense at all as to what action is occurring where.
The entire point would be to feel what the soldier would have been feeling, to learn by being able to deeply empathize for a moment in time.
Complete lack of orientation would be so disjointing for the viewer as to become unrelatable.
Conveying the real horror of that moment would need to be psychological, subtle, personal, not at all over the top.
I would err on the side of playing it too quiet so that you can hear the soundscape playing tricks on you and step directly into the shoes of the soldier.

❤️❤️❤️ I'm always in awe of how much work you put into these, Demi! You're amazing!
Thanks for the mention...AND I've not found my apocalyptic partner, he's gonna have to be something extra to convince me to budge from my hermit cave....like seriously, if he exists, we're gonna need Divine intervention to make it happen....the list of requirements has changed a lot since 2020...if you know what I mean.... LOL!
