Apparently, I Read… A LOT….
Situation: Substack hands gobs of self-referential data to community of chronically self-hypercritical, analytical people.
We’re writers. It’s what we do.
Unintended result?
Instant viral rampage of community-wide self-flagellation.
We all use the data as a mirror, self-criticizing our habits, wringing our hands, hyperanalyzing the way we spend our time, automatically believing that what we are doing, no matter what it is, is somehow WRONG.
“I ________ too much/I don’t _______ enough.”
Solution: Holy shit, guys. We need to lighten up!!! 🤣🤣🤣
You’re likely a bit faster at reading than I am, Jim Davidson. I’m devoting more time to it.
One of the habits I’ve cultivated is working my tasks into each other, so I’m often reading to give my brain a break in between the other things I am doing.
It helps me switch gears and break monotony as an added bonus to getting to read some really great work.
And then I can get more done in a day.
So, where someone else might sit down and watch a boring TV show in order to clear their head, I’m not doing that.
I’m working other work into those moments depending upon my mood.
And when I do it that way, I keep my mind from perceiving it as “work.”
I enjoy whatever task I am doing in the moment because I am in the mood to do it when I do it, and I leave room for all of them to get accomplished.
That said, I had no idea I was reading THAT much, which ultimately shows me how engaging the activity is for me: I did not notice the passage of time.
I participated in Odyssey of the Mind (which has a bit of a Math Olympiad component to it) briefly as a kid, but the practices felt like being on a game show. So I stopped.
Authenticity Is The Magic Bullet That Would Destroy Cancel Culture For Good
Authenticity is the magic bullet that would destroy cancel culture for good.
Many are too focused on not getting “cancelled” to be authentic, not realizing that, if everyone is authentic, it removes the leverage of anyone attempting to cancel anyone else.
Most forget about “Shy Tory effect,” have never heard of it, or do not realize it applies to literally ANYTHING people refuse to speak up about.
The MAJORITY is being silenced by their fear of speaking up.
If you’d all speak up, you’d realize you ARE the majority and there is nothing to fear.
However, sadly, the majority values what the ignorant masses think of them over their own health.
They value belonging to the group.
They value cowering in fear over the threat of ridicule or ostracism over living knowing they will live.
And if you ask them, they will call this delusion “sacrifice.”
They will tell you they did it for the “greater good.”
They will tell you they did it for their families.
They will make rationalizations that it’s “what God wanted them to do.”
They will say anything they can possibly say to spin their cowardice into virtue.
What good is anyone to anyone else if we are all dead?
Will your family’s quality of life be better without you because you traded a shot for two years of paychecks before dropping dead?
I think not.
Most are so focused on people pleasing, often to the point of deluding themselves that they are “being of service” to their own detriment, until it drains them of all the energy they have and there is literally nothing left.
They age prematurely having done nothing they have ever wanted to do in life.
How can we get anywhere when everyone is too busy acting because they are too scared to be themselves?
That’s where strength comes in. The real flex is when people have the guts to drop the facade and just BE who they really are.
That’s when all the RIGHT people - the people who genuinely match your frequency - are drawn to you.
People in hiding only attract people in hiding.
What is anyone going to do in hiding?
Cower until it all goes away?
Until someone else handles it?
Nothing feels real when it’s on a TV screen.
But when it’s at your doorstep, it’s best to be ready - and not to give a shit what others think of you.
And the only way to do that is to go inward, do your shadow work, and make peace with who you really ARE - to do it to the point where you have set yourself free to be your most authentic self, regardless of what anyone else thinks.
Absolutely!
Most people default to being self-centered - not in a malicious way, just self-focused out of necessity, self-preservation, or even insecurity.
So, they’re not paying attention to you anyway.
Most should find that thought liberating.
If what you fear most is judgment, and no one actually gives a shit, why not just be yourself?

Ladies and Guns
So sayeth all men who grew up pre-internet and stashed girlie mags (and probably the Victoria’s Secret and Sears catalogs) in the woods behind their houses so their sisters wouldn’t tattle and their moms and grandmas wouldn’t drag them to church by their ear for simply being little curious dudes (who subsequently grew up to feel somewhat guilty for having normal male urges… stifle it, grandma).
Gen X and Boomer men, this one’s for you. LOL.
New Vocabulary For The Perplexicon
I love it. This conveys how I feel about most “postmodern cultural discussions.”
It’s all just a bunch of people making up more inane shit on top of the inane shit they already made up, vying for some kind of “relevance,” hoping some silly schlock they invented will catch fire.
Instead of perhaps doing something useful, they all want their Andy Warhol 15 Minutes for coining some useless term we wouldn’t need except to address the other useless terms they already made up.
Synonym: Linguistic circle jerking.
The Tower Card and the Death Card
“I think you are referencing the Tarot here, and I was wondering your thoughts on the Tower. I regard it as one of the only near-universally negative cards (even reversed) for its association with ruin, catastrophe, or at best delay of inevitable... though some feel it can be more positive in sense of "bolt of inspiration" making way for new, for example, like Ganesh destroying obstacles with sudden violence. I tend to view Death in that role though, in that sense that it can, contextually, signify the positive element of ends/destruction as transformational or transitional to rebirth (as well as its more obvious, less pleasant interpretations). Curious your thoughts🧐” -
It doesn't have to be negative at all.
It's basically the deus ex machina card.
It's either a warning that if you don't change something, the universe is going to step in and shake up your apple cart to create movement or it represents a major life shake up that is jumbling things around in your favor to bring in something better.
It removes anything stale or stagnant from your path. It will break apart anything that isn't built on solid ground so that you can create a new foundation based on solid premises so that what you build after that will be built to last.
It clears out anything that either was never meant for you or isn't meant for you anymore so that you will have room to bring in what is meant for you.
If you know how to surf the energy, it's never bad.
You can optimize it so that you can make the best of it.
When you're self-aware and you notice energies shifting, you can get ahead of it.
“Very interesting! Thank you for sharing that. One quick follow up then (if you are so inclined of course haha), how would you view Tower vis-à-vis (I am on a "vis-à-vis" kick lately.) Death?” -
The Death card?
“Correct! 😃 I mean: Correct! 💀 Haha” -
The Death card is transformation from one state to another. It's not necessarily death - and it often isn't. But it's the "death" of one state as you move into another.
The end of one thing and the beginning of something else. Or some major change you're undergoing.

It depends which cards are around it and its place in the spread. This would determine how to read it. If you see it near the Tower it would mean that a major transformation is coming in guided by the universe that is going to clear out one thing to bring in something else.
If you see these near happy cards, it's a positive change or a change that ultimately results in something better than what was before even if it's going to be a bit of an ass pain getting there.
“Thank you! I very much appreciate it 😊” -

Thank you Sweet Girl.❣️
On another note...Chesticles?! Bwahahaha
Also, pay attention to the FEAR,and remember that fear comes from the dark side. Not from God. Discernment is so very important to learn to sharpen our senses. When all our chakras are lined up, and we are functioning at full capacity, what an amazing species we are. It's part of why God loves us so very much. He knows what we're capable of. Thanks again for the mention Demi.💟🌟💟
