Journoids and Techbros….
These “journoid” types, as Dudley Newright calls them, the former “blue check” writers of the world, can’t imagine how to operate within a culture in which someone who seemingly has a brain wouldn’t prefer to waste their intellect memorizing a whole bunch of pointlessness in order to circle jerk for street cred.
This is why. Their values are not the same. Their culture is not the same. And they do not understand the culture of the objects of their criticism well enough to conceive of what it is, how it functions, or how one might effectively participate in it.
Their Culture 101:
This is the codex.
Understand this, and the rest falls into place.
To those engaged in building, there is no time for accumulating pointless hipster trivia, wasting brain space on cultivating mock intelligence through rote memorization or attempting to coin some ridiculous, meaningless countercultural slang to earn one’s Warhol 15, when doing so does not earn you any real measurable power.
However, doing something so well that no one else can compete with you does.
Criticism sans understanding is pointless.
What have these types built from scratch with their own hands?
Nothing.
How many monopolies have they achieved?
None.
They are too busy cultivating the perception of their circle jerking “peers” that their rote memorization and quipping powers are up to snuff to spend the bulk of their time crafting anything meaningful that lasts or anything so culturally resonant that cashing out on its exit strategy would set them and their heirs up for life by their own hand.
And that’s really all we need to know.
What are their metrics for accomplishment?
How do they define what success is?
To builders, the admiration of the peanut gallery is not a valuable enough metric.
Why do something if, after having done it, you have nothing to show for it?
And even gauging by that metric, those holding the monopolies have more likes, more cred, and more admiration than the circle jerking writers do.
And with it, much more meaningless unfounded criticism.
Other people’s crappy, pointless opinions in bulk.
This is the price of either fame or notoriety: Having to suffer the bullshit of fools who are jealous and talk smack because they can’t do what you do.
And so they spend their time tearing others down in order to feel good about themselves.
One can’t criticize their game effectively when one doesn’t even understand it and couldn’t conceive of how to play.
If they want to understand this culture deeply, they should attempt to build something from scratch so they can understand what that feels like, and until then, they should leave the criticism to people who actually get it.

I don’t always make “The Scroll” but when I do, I usually wear a boxer not a brief and remember chicks pay top dollar for it in New York. Thanks for the mention Demi! Glad to contribute as always!
I always like reading "The Scrolls". But where the Hell do they come from? So many interesting conversations I'd like to either read, more or less as they happen, or comment upon. Do these happen on people's posts or in chat or notes or what-gives? I never seem to encounter them even though many are with people whom I read and follow. Any advice from commenters, etc., on how to "follow better" or whatever one must do here on SS is most welcome.
