Azazel, A. Virtue signalling is the expression of a disingenuous moral viewpoint with the intent of communicating good character and increase one’s status. It is a type of public moral grandstanding with minimal associated cost and lack of concrete action, in which a viewpoint or answer is calculated to “look good” and appear virtuous to others. This concept may incorporate some or all elements found in political correctness, self-righteousness, and moral superiority, and can be used to describe actions by individuals, organizations, and governments. Although virtue signalling is used to indicate that a person is kind and decent, it’s noticeable how often it is manifested as hateful words or behaviors towards someone or something. This is because, from an energetic standpoint, darkness (i.e., a person’s unhealed shadows) needs to camouflage as light in order to be effective and socially embraceable. In these instances, the emphasis on hate is used to distract others from the fact that virtue signalers are actually saying how good they are. If a person were frank and said “I care about the oppressed more than others,” their vanity and self-aggrandizement would be obvious—anger and outrage disguise boastfulness. Virtue signalling can also be seen as a relinquishment of responsibility with the mask of social virtue. Virtue signalling externalizes the blame as it always sees the evil elsewhere—it provides virtue signalers with the perfect escape from going within, doing the inner work, and asking themselves: “what am I missing? what could I do differently? how could I contribute to achieving meaningful and sustainable change? am I embodying the same energies that I’m criticizing and condemning in others in my own life?” Azazel News.
