A Never-Ending War With The Media….
“Free USBs” that already have information stacked on them would probably be the most effective guerilla information warfare tool in the current climate… so I can’t say I disagree with that.
Depending upon the distribution method, it could be as effective as guerilla projection advertising in a busy area, considering there’s no guarantee the media would pick up on that being a noteworthy story and amplify it at this point… unless they were THAT offended by it that they chose to cover it to demonize it.
Interesting to think about, for sure.

“Do You Want The Good Package Or The Big Gun?” (In Which I Start Channeling An Odd Message)
It’s what came through when you said that to me… the words “the constant gardener” (a film about political corruption and pharmaceutical money) and then “the good gardener” - and then the national trust (which is for historical preservation, preservation of narratives) brought up the lyrics from The Beatles’ Happiness Is A Warm Gun, from part one of the song… which, I never knew before that the song has parts to it that are named like the acts of a play… part one is The Dirty Old Man, part two is The Junkie, and part three is The Gunman (Satire of '50s R&R). It’s how my messages come through sometimes.

:The Starfire Codes so fascinating. I don’t know enough of those elements to grasp the connections. I remember reading Ayn Rand’s the Romantic Manifesto for the first time in my early 20’s, she would make a point about a concerto , but it required I had to know about that concerto. What a struggle to then listen enough to classical music before I could comprehend parts of her aesthetics. Freaking massive jigsaw puzzle. Coming back to you I trust your style, so if you mention things unfamiliar to me, I simply store what you said for later. That feeling of trust in you is so nice.
Thank you so much. That means a lot to me, Michael Newberry! :)
These seem to be puzzle pieces regarding our current political landscape, the preservation of a narrative.
And the gardener/plant aspect would be the planting of a narrative that constantly requires being tended to in order for it to bear fruit.
The song feels like a nod to the assassination attempt which could, given all of the strange discrepancies, be an “assassination attempt” involving the preservation of a narrative.
It’s not a particularly shocking revelation.
I have no emotional reaction to this as information.
More like a confirmation of sorts, and not even a particularly dire one at that.
With my media background, I tend to figure 99% of what is broadcast is stilted anyway, no matter who happens to be doing the stilting.
That’s what it’s for - opinion manufacture for the purpose of crafting reality tunnels to corral people into taking desired actions.
Might seem cynical, but I think of it as more matter of fact: Media is a tool, and that is its primary use case.
The “dirty old man” is probably Biden, the “junkie” might be Harris on quaaludes, and the “gunman” is probably Ree Tardy Oswald and whoever his escaped cohort was.

:The Starfire Codes brilliant, and your awareness of media manipulation feels calming to me. Like a nature documentary on human behavior. My complementary take is: there is a lot of postmodernism going on. Like the media is the antithesis of how media is generally defined, in the same way Duchamp’s urinal is the antithesis of our general understanding of art. My mental health comes about from finding independents that I can critically discern that they are the real deal.
Funny I really like the encyclopedic mind of Mike Benz, a “former” state department guy. I was hoping to bring him on board aesthetically. Until he gushed over, and went as far to want to buy for his home, an AI image of the finger of god redirecting the course of the bullet aimed at Trump’s head. Benz also didn’t discern it was AI, didn’t discern it was propaganda, and didn’t discern how creepy it is that god protects his favorites.
I came away clearly realizing he’ll never be a cultural warrior colleague; even though he sometimes suggests otherwise.
The evil brilliance of postmodernism is that its victims cannot figure out that they’ve been infected. Like a conservative that thinks they are rejecting PM culture by turning to propaganda to fill their need for real art. (The Jordan Peterson syndrome, lol.)
I would never consider AI art to be art in that sense. I think the way we perceive it is not quite correct and that there are a few different ways of looking at it, depending upon what exactly you’re trying to do.
I think, for either the layman or for the cat-herding artist-wrangling producer, it would be most useful as a communication tool when you want to communicate with an actual artist what the hell it is that you have in your head but don’t have the words or the means to do that in an effective manner. It seems great for producing rapid fire mockups which can then be disregarded once you’ve utilized them to communicate the overall point to the person doing the real work. That’s useful. But it’s not art.
The REAL art in utilizing it comes from the programming side, of knowing exactly what words to use and how to code it to get it to come up with something amazing… like the way a video game developer would code the art you see visually within the landscape of the game. My best example of this would be the way What IS a name, really? utilizes it. Her pieces are phenomenal because she understands the secret sauce behind the way the images are crafted according to the words she uses - and she is bending the tool itself to her will to create something beautiful. The words become the paintbrush.
When I use the one on Substack, I like to crack the combined concepts open to make fun of them and of us… like, “This is the three-legged dog of the combined themes of the conversations we just had! Behold how screwed up it is and welcome to Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride!” Which I think, given what AI is, that it’s an aggregate and I am exposing it for being an aggregate while I am doing something which is also aggregate in nature, that’s an appropriate use case. It feels correct in its ridiculousness and exposes it for how inherently ridiculous it is anyway. But it makes sense that this is my approach because I come from an experimental documentary background and cracking media tools open to expose how they work to alter your perception is pretty much the gig. That’s my lens.
I also admire the way in which Theodore Atkinson uses it ironically, by pointing out that the image came from the creeptastic image generator. That always makes me laugh.
I honestly can’t believe that people actually fear it or have these crazy reactions to it. Ironically, that amplifies its ability to mirror what is most disturbing about us back to us. It’s literally aggregating a digital imprint of humanity - best and worst parts. It’s more like a reflection of our collective shadow than anything else.
It’s literally garbage in, garbage out. And we, collectively, are the garbage it’s taking in.
If you don’t want it reflecting the worst of us back to us, heal your freaking shadows, people. Then you won’t be scared to face what it’s reflecting back to you. (Jung would have a field day with that thing.)

:Hello there :) I am back in the seat working on “stuff” tomorrow *wink, wink. You will be hearing from me. I was thinking of Michael when I was watching “My Lunch Break” and they replaced this incredible, beautiful, old-world building with a piece of crap black box of a thing. I just knew he would be dismayed, as are we all…….
As…
are…
we…
all….
Sheesh.
I don’t talk about stuff like “my lunch break” around my family but today you could not shut me up. They certainly think I am crazy now and I am good with it. It was a kind of opening up today.
I feel pretty wired now, after that.
Thank you for what you said. You mentioned my name. I appreciate what you said. I think of it as a “thought experiment”, a “game” and it’s also a “learning tool”.
I have learned many things.
It would be easier if round women weren’t “unsafe content.” It would be better if we didn’t let the porn industry ruin “cream” and that word is commonly “unsafe”, especially in a pants color. :)
But it’s fun. I can say things off the top of my head now, that I either didn’t know, or I knew what they meant and never applied them anywhere before: Phyllotaxis, Dendric, Verdigris, Occlusion, Tilt Shift, etc. I have learned a lot about different styles of art while trying to prompt something.
This is a learning experience in every way. Now I am learning about Tarot. From here, I will move on to other interests and if it involves visuals, you can bet I will be researching things about it. I understand why everyone feels the way they do about it. It does represent a lot of ideas all at once.
But, I am a visual learner. I was doing it initially just because it was fun and my oldest son had shown me what it could do. Then I started to learn things.
I am keeping it in balance in my mind. I make sure to say “I prompted this”, not “I MADE THIS”. I didn’t make it. Many humans before me and the image creator along with my word choices, along with many probabilities in between, “made it happen”.
I have a creeping feeling it has been around for a long time and we are not the first ones to have this conversation. ~ call me crazy. That’s my middle name. Amy “crazy and she likes it” Rosebush *you two are both awesome.

The AI (large language model) art does feel like it is olden tech brought out of an archive by the Myrmidons. So I was thinking about a prompt for the artwork to bring that out.
