I have long struggled to find a word I sometimes feel has been hidden from us. Or perhaps just long-forgotten. It is a word somewhere in between "poignant," "inspirational," "bittersweet," "melancholy," "nostalgic"... and yet it is none of those things. There is a hole in my heart where the word should be. I occasionally find myself reaching for it there, reflexively, and always being faintly surprised when my hand passes through the nothingness and returns empty. I have pored over countless reference books, but I've yet to find the word. Interestingly, (if only to me) the closest word I've found is "petrichor"--if "petrichor" had an emotional analog, a kind of synesthetic twin.
